Nadya Steare is a current Medical Illustration MA candidate at Johns Hopkins University and a

graduate of George Mason University. In 2022, she was awarded a research grant to complete a body of artwork on Icelandic reforestation and landscape identity, which she completed during a two-month artist residency in Akureyri. The work was presented in her debut international solo exhibition at the Deiglan Gallery, and later

that year at the GMU School of Art. She continued presenting this series at undergraduate research

conferences in 2023; NCUR in Eau Claire, WI, and as a Student Research Excellence Award winner at

GMU OSCAR. In 2023, she presented her recycled sculpture series ‘Re_Source Art’ in a solo exhibition at the Delaplaine Arts Center. She also completed a public mural commission for the Potomac Science Center in Woodbridge; a depiction of native aquatic plants and animals across a nearly 250 sq ft lobby staircase.

Following her graduation with a BFA and biology minor in 2024, she worked as a science illustrator

and public artwork contractor. She created a public sculpture for display at the City of Fairfax Town

Hall and in 2025 spent three months in Rauma, Finland for her second residency abroad. There she

ran workshops at the Viklo and Kuovi Youth Centers, was a guest lecturer at the University of Turku,

and completed an outdoor mural commissioned by the Port of Rauma.
